David Donaldson MacKinnon (born 23 May 1956 in Glasgow) is a Scottish former professional football player who is best known for his time with Rangers. ==Football career== Mackinnon started his career at Arsenal F.C. before joining Dundee F.C. in 1976. A transfer to Partick Thistle for £18,000 followed in 1978. With Thistle he earned a Scottish League cap against Northern Ireland in 1980 under Jock Stein. Later that year though he was diagnosed with Tuberculosis and had a kidney removed. With doubts over his career he returned to the side in January 1981 in a Scottish Cup tie against Clyde and over the remaining season he recovered full fitness. He joined Rangers from Partick Thistle for £30,000 in May 1982. MacKinnon made his top team debut against Motherwell on the 4 September 1982, aged 26. The game ended in as a 2-2 draw〔(Dave MacKinnon - Rangers FC - Football-Heroes.net )〕 The book, ‘Rangers – Player by Player’ (written by Bob Ferrier and Robert McElroy) said of MacKinnon; “Dave was a wholehearted full-back who had pace and was addicted to storming forward to use a powerful shot.” MacKinnon departed Ibrox after the arrival of Graeme Souness, moving to Airdrieonians in 1986.
